Final PSAT Post

As of right now, I have read 147 pages out of Diary of an Anorexic Girl. I only need 29 more pages and I will be done with the book. I have found this story to be amazingly interesting and I have enjoyed every page of it! Reading the diary of a girl who had problems with her self esteem and the situations she was in really opened my eyes to what anorexic girls go through. I believe that the Independent Reading assignment has helped me become a better reader and I am glad we had time to read in class as well.

Diary of an Anorexic Girl- Catch Up

Lately in Diary of an Anorexic Girl, Blythe has been experiencing numerous events, from boy problems, to family crisis, to obsessing with her weight, again. Her family began noticing the change in her body and how thin she was getting, so she was sent to rehabilitation, where she met her therapist, Becca. Blythe decides she doesn't like her and the place she's in, but she has to play along and act as if she is getting better so she can get out of it as soon as possible. After gaining some weight she is good to go, but starts having low self-esteem after a while once again. Blythe finds a new crush in Owen, her enemy's ex-boyfriend, but she still keeps thinking to herself "I know those few pounds are the only thing keeping me and Owen apart." After a while, she leaves for a college trip away from her family, so she takes that as a chance to skip meals so she can lose her pounds.

Diary of an Anorexic Girl- Character Post

The main character in Diary of an Anorexic Girl is named Blythe Beaumont. Blythe is a regular teenager going to high school trying to get through life, until she begins to pay more attention to one of her classmates, Laurie. She notices how Laurie is beginning to lose weigh rapidly and barely even eats, so Blythe's competitive side takes over her and she begins to follow Laurie's footsteps. Even after Laurie moves away, Blythe finds herself eating less each day, to the point where she decides she was meant to be in the double digits, weighting 95 pounds.

Diary of an Anorexic Girl

Author: Morgan Menzie

Genre: Suspense, Real Life

(176 pages)

The setting of this story is not really known at the beginning, but it starts off by Blythe receiving a diary from his grand-father. In this diary, Blythe writes down all her thoughts and her opinions on her family, best friends, and a girl named Laurie. Laurie has caught Blythe's attention since she began drinking excessive amounts of water, runs an extra mile everyday, and has stopped eating lunch. Blythe is surprised at this, and wants to do the same thing not knowing what she will get herself into. So far, this book has captivated my attention and I think that reading it as a diary makes it a little more entertaining as well.

"Akeelah and the Bee" - Part 2

I definitely enjoyed the movie "Akeelah and the Bee". At the beginning I was not so sure if the movie was going to be entertaining, but I have to admit after finishing watching it I would surely recommend it to people I know. I loved how it ended and how it is the kind of movie that doesn't leave you wanting for more. Watching Akeelah learn new words also helped me be more familiar with words I have never heard of, and I am sure if I watched this movie a couple more times I could memorize some of them more easily.

"Akeelah and the Bee" - Part 1

One word from the movie that I have never heard before is the word 'brunneous'. Also, one strategy that Akeelah uses is tapping her thigh while spelling. I believe that jumping rope also helped her with timing her spelling, and keeping away from distractions.

Head Over Heels-Setting

The setting in the book Head Over Heels is mainly in the teenagers' school. However, the characters jump from place to place as well. For example, many things happen when Francesca and her family travel to Florida, even when her best friend Nikki doesn't want to accompany her since she's mad at Fran-- "But I've already got plans. I'm going to Jamaica with my parents." During this trip, Francesca realizes many things and finds what she really wants, too.
